Granny Nel’s Ginger Biscuits

I remember making these often with my dad (and of course getting to lick the bowl). Preheat the oven to 180°C/350ºF.

Mix together:

  • 150-176g butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 unbeaten egg
  • 2 table spoons golden syrup

Sift and then stir in:

  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 2 tsps baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • pinch of ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup choc chips (optional)

Mix well. Once doughy, roll into balls, place on a greased baking tray and press down with a fork. Makes a generous amount of dough, so you may need more than one baking tray. Bake for about 10 mins.
